This years HOPEWALK has been the BIGGEST yet! 

Thank you to everyone who got involved – whether you hosted a walk, joined one or donated, you have all made a massive difference to many young lives. HOPEWALK this year has helped to raise awareness for PAPYRUS and #SmashTheStigma around suicide and we couldn’t have done it without you!

This year we have had over 350 walks taking place up and down the country and so far we have raised over £40,000 – which is incredible! This could help fund 8,000 calls, texts or emails to our helpline, HOPELINEUK.

Thank you to everyone for their support and most importantly thank you for helping us spread the message of HOPE.






Taking place across the month of October, HOPEWALK is a month of walks up and down the UK, organised by you with help from us. Your walk can be as long or as short as you like; around the block or a 10 mile hike.  You can get your whole community involved, or just have you and your dog – the choice is yours! Some people choose to walk in memory of a loved one, others choose to walk to fundraise and raise awareness. You can choose to use your HOPEWALK to raise funds, but you don’t have to – our aim is to get the conversation around suicide started, in order to #SmashTheStigma.

Fantastic! We’re so grateful that you have chosen to support the vital work of PAPYRUS by becoming a HOPEWALK Host.

Step 1: Please fill in the form below to register your walk, giving as much detail as you can.  You will receive a confirmation email with details of how to pay your £10 entry fee (only hosts need to pay!).

Step 2: Pay your £10 registration fee and wait for your jam-packed host pack to arrive!

Step 3: As host, you will organise your own walk your own way – you need to choose your walk and plan your route, then invite people to join you (View our HOPEWALK FAQs at the bottom of this page for ideas on how to invite people to join your walk)

Brilliant! Some of our hosts make their walks public so that you can join them.  We will update our events page with all of our public HOPEWALKs.  If there isn’t currently one in your area you can host your own, or check back at a later date to see if a new walk has been registered.

  • What is a HOPEWALK?

    Everyone’s HOPEWALK will be different with one common goal; to smash the stigma and get the conversation around suicide started.

    Your HOPEWALK can be as big or as small as you’d like – it can be a big event involving your whole school, or a family walk in the park.  You can even do a ‘virtual walk’ on the treadmill. It’s your walk so you can choose how it runs!

  • What is a HOPEWALK host?

    Each HOPEWALK up and down the country is organised by a HOPEWALK Host. Each host pays for their Host Pack and is responsible for organising the walk, inviting people and making sure the walk runs smoothly. Anyone can be a host – just fill out the form here to register your HOPEWALK.

  • How much does it cost?

    This year, the registration fee is £10. Only Hosts need to pay and you’ll receive a special HOPEWALK pack to help you make the most of your walk.

  • Do I have to walk in October?

    Most people choose to have their walk take place in October to celebrate World Mental Health Day, but you are more than welcome to walk at another time during the year.

  • I’d like to walk but don’t think I could organise my own.

    Many Hosts choose to make their walk public and have lots of people join from their local area. As public walks are registered they will become available on our website event pageSimply check if there is a walk in your area and get in touch with the fundraising team, who can connect you with that host.

  • How do I invite people to join my walk?

    You can make your HOPEWALK as big, or as private as you would like. If you want to spread the word about your HOPEWALK and would like to extend your invitation out to PAPYRUS supporters in your area you can contact our fundraising team on and we can advertise your walk on our website’s event page.

    Also, if you use social media you can share your walk on your profile and ask people to share it for you – social media is a great way to spread the word about your walk. Make sure to tag @PAPYRUS_tweets if you’re posting on Twitter!

  • What if I am not fundraising?

    Some people choose to use their HOPEWALK to raise funds, others choose to walk in memory of a loved one or to raise awareness. Either is absolutely fine. You can choose to use your HOPEWALK to raise funds, but you absolutely don’t have to – our aim is to get the conversation around suicide started, in order to #SmashTheStigma.

  • What help can PAPYRUS offer me?


    We can help guide you with planning your HOPEWALK, such as how to boost donations or sponsorship. We can also support you with a selection of literature about PAPYRUS, and HOPELINEUK cards and merchandise to make your event stand out.

    Our press office can help advise you on how to promote your event in local media and you can find a press support pack here. Additionally we can offer social media support.

  • I have another question, who can I contact?

  • Can I have a selfie-board?


    We have a very limited number of selfie-boards that are used by PAPYRUS staff at events.  You are more than welcome to have your own selfie-board made using this artwork* – we’d love to see any photos you get!
